Chiquita E. Green
Largely a self taught musician with natural abilities Chiquita first began to play at age 5 on a neighbor’s piano and soon after found that she could "express her melodies musically" on the piano. Although her first public performances were in her elementary school plays, it was during Chiquita's even earlier years that her very first performances started to take place. Acknowledged as the "family ham" it was at home that the "family shows" took place and the fire was ignited in the young Chiquita to play and sing music!
During her later years at home is when Chiquita became aware of the great singers with varying styles of music such as Nancy Wilson, Ray Charles, Mahalia Jackson, Sergio Mendez, Sarah Vaughn, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few, and all have had an influence on her music and has led to her writing and performing in a variety of settings. Although her passion and love is for the Lord Jesus Christ and Gospel music as you'll find on her latest self produced release "King Jesus" on her own Yahweh 143 label, her fifth recording, Chiquita is just as comfortable embracing a folder full of greats from the American standards of Jazz, and with her unique arrangements and vocal style they become new songs again!!
Known as The Healing Voice, Chiquita is a recipient of 4 Billboard song writer achievement awards and three E.S.M.A. Gospel Awards for her debut and sophomore CD releases, “Let Go” and The Sandmouth/Mercy Project, which was co-written and co-produced with producer/bassist Douglas C. Grigsby Ill, whose production credits include T.D. Jakes, the late Michael Jackson & Teena Marie. Her fourth CD entitled Raisin Colored Sky (2012), was also nominated for “Best Inspirational/Jazz CD” by E.S.M.A.
Chiquita's third CD entitled “Diary Of A Daughters Love” (2011), was co-written and co-produced with frequent collaborator, multi-platinum producer and Grammy Award winner Bobby Eli!
She has also lent her sultry vocals on many recordings and performances with other celebrated artist including, Denise Williams,George Clinton, Hall & Oates, Stevie Wonders’ Celebration CD, Ronnie Spector, and the late Barry White a mentor who once referred to her as "his little angel" and many others.
Chiquita has shared the stage and opened for many others as well including Alvin Slaughter, Earnest Pugh, Richard Smallwood, Dianne Reeves, and many more. It was during her days of working with the late Luther Vandross’ group “Change” that Chiquita discovered and began perfecting a whole new groove to her already strong baselines and solid rhythms. Also an exhilarating percussionist, Chiquita says regarding its significance, "songs have to have a heart and the percussion adds that pulse". And pulse Chiquita has, she illuminates the stage with grace and power, and has an explosive and electric creative energy that ignites her fan's deepest emotions!
She has headlined and performed at numerous world renowned venues such as Jazz A Vienne-France, Half Note-Athens, Princess Grace Theatre-Monte Carlo, Q Jazz (Ciragan Palace)-lstanbul, Hippodrome-London, Christian Cultural Center-NY, Saint Peters Church-Austria, to name a few.
Chiquita has several television appearances to her credit; she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show while working with Patti LaBelle in Philadelphia. For seven years, she was a member of the Gospel/Jazz Group “Agape”, making regular tours abroad. No stranger to the theater, she has several stage productions to her credit, including Anything Goes, Heaven Can Wait, The Pied Piper and Torn Love which she co-wrote and produced.
Staying true to her roots, Chiquita lives, immersed in the deep billows of her fervent passion, “music”! After hearing her perform at the Monsieur Festival de Jazz in France jazz legend Dianne Reeves exclaimed, “She’s powerful and full of fire, I love watching and hearing Chiquita sing!”.
With so much already accomplished and the new King Jesus CD already receiving national attention its know wonder that Chiquita E. Green's star is shooting straight to the heavens!!
